The shape of a blank is never a fixed choice.
It influences response, feeling, stability, and the relationship to effort, and it may respond differently depending on the playing context, the musician’s condition, or the musical situation.

 

Some shapes favor ease, responsiveness, or brilliance, while others bring greater stability, density, or control.
These shapes do not oppose each other: they can be complementary, each responding to a specific need.

 

It is common for a musician to feel more comfortable with a certain shape depending on:

 

– the length of playing,
– the level of fatigue,
– the acoustic environment (indoors or outdoors),
– the repertoire,
– or simply the feeling of the day.

 

For this reason, at the Donat Workshop, we consider the cup shape as a tool of adaptation, not as a single and definitive choice.
